Is embalming required?

No, Iowa law does not require that the body be embalmed for simple cremation. Des Moines Cremation does not offer embalming services.

Is a casket necessary for cremation?

Iowa law does require that the body be held in a rigid, leak-proof container for dignified storage, transfer and handling. Today, we have a variety of cremation containers and caskets that are very economical and manufactured specifically for cremation. These cremation containers are consumed during the cremation process and should not be confused with an urn.

Do I Need an Urn?

Do I need an urn?

An urn is not required by law. However, an urn may be desired if there is to be a memorial service or the cremated remains are to be interred in a cemetery. We also have urns that are better suited for home display and still others that are meant for travel. If no urn is selected the cremated remains will be placed in a temporary container.
